Drink This Not That: Green Tea Edition


Green tea is one of the best sources of natural antioxidants in the world. Used in China and other Asian countries for centuries, it has a light and refreshing flavor that can provide you with an instant uplift. As the popularity of green tea grew in this country, manufacturers began releasing new drinks that contained the tea. You can find bottles of green tea in the gas station and bags of green tea in your grocery store. Commercially prepared green tea often lacks the healthy ingredients that you need, but it’s easy to make your own tea at home. Green Tea Benefits

Green tea is one of the best and most healthiest drinks for weight loss. Studies found that drinking just a few cups a day can help you lose more weight than you otherwise would. Other studies found that it can reduce a drinker’s risk of developing diabetes, certain types of cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, depression, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Drinking green tea hot or cold may also improve the look of your skin and give you more energy.

Hot Green Tea

Making hot green tea is so easy that you can make the perfect cup before going to work in the morning. Brew hot water with either a coffe maker or a teapot, but make sure that the temperature doesn’t rise above 180 degrees. Higher temperatures can burn the tea leaves and give the drink a slightly bitter taste. Place a green tea bag directly in your cup. If you have loose leaves, place a strainer over the top of your cup with the leaves inside the strainer. Pour the hot water over the leaves or teabag and let the drink steep for at least five minutes. Remove the leaves or bag before drinking.

Iced Green Tea

Do you love the idea of drinking green tea but prefer something a little cooler? As long as you have a large jug or a pitcher, you can make your own iced tea. Place a minimum of 12 to 15 green tea bags in the bottom of your vessel. Bring one gallon of water to a boil before pouring over the tea bags. Let the mixture steep overnight before removing the bags and drinking. If you need something a little sweeter, try adding a small amount of honey to your tea.
