No one likes to deal with stress, but no matter what you go through every day, you probably find yourself feeling stressful. Between dealing with issues at work and issues at home due to problems with your partner, kids and pets, you might find yourself snapping and flying off the handle every now and then. When you develop some comping mechanisms and strategies, you can better handle your stress.
Take a Walk
The next time that you find yourself in the midst of a stressful situation, get up and walk away from that situation. Something as simple as taking a few steps back and leaving the room or building can help you gain a clear head and feel a little better about the situation. Take a short walk of 10 to 15 minutes or longer until you clear your mind and feel calm enough to return.
Meditation is one of the best ways to deal with stress both at home and at work. While you might not have the time or space to break out a few yoga poses, you do have the time and space to meditate. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and slowly count to 10. If you still feel stressed, count backwards from 30 or 60. If you have your own office, try turning off the lights and slowly inhaling and exhaling until you feel calmer and more rested and relaxed.
Find a Hobby You Enjoy
Finding a hobby you like is one of the best ways to battle stress. Even if you can’t get out of the office until late at night, you can still look forward to spending the weekend quilting, shopping with your friends, taking a hike with your kids or even curling up with a good book. Try out a few different hobbies and activities that you think you might like or stick with something you loved as a child or in your younger years.
Stress is something that everyone must deal with, but that stress shouldn’t control your life. Managing stress can sometimes be as easy as meditating at work, taking a walk or doing a hobby you love.
