Achieving Life-Work Balance

Life Work Balance Scale

You seldom hear people say that they wished they spent more time working, but you’ll likely hear people say that they wished they spent more time with their family and friends. While you may need to work 40 hours a week or more to provide for your family, you must still find time for yourself and time to spend at home. Developing a good balance helps you stay healthy and reduces your stress.

Eliminate Stress

Think about the times in your life when you feel most stressed. Is it when you’re playing in the yard with your kids or having a fun date night with your partner? If you are like most people, you probably feel more stressed when you’re at work. The more stress you feel at work, the more likely you are to take our your frustrations at home. Finding a good balance between your work life and home life can help you feel better at home and reduce the frustrations you experience outside of work.

Become More Healthy

Did you know that scientists found a link between stress and illness? Those who live lives filled with more stress are more likely to suffer from heart diseases, high blood pressure and other diseases that can lead to an early death. Finding a way to spend more time at home and developing a better balance between your professional and personal lives can help you become more healthy. Something as simple as going to bed early at an established time or spending more time with your family on the weekends can help.

How to Improve the Balance Between Work and Home

Though you might think it’s impossible to build a better balance between your work and home lives, it’s more than possible. Make a goal to spend a minimum of 30 minutes every day with your family and an additional 30 minutes on yourself and slowly increase that goal every few weeks. While you’ll love cooking dinner with your spouse, watching television with your kids and going out together as a family, make sure that you also put aside some time for yourself every day to recharge your internal battery.
